FOUR PAWS campaign against the dog mafia

..." Today, FOUR PAWS starts an international campaign against the illegal trade in puppies. The trade in puppies has increased enormously in the past few years, and the supply of young dogs from Eastern Europe is currently far greater than the demand.
Tourists from Austria, Germany or the Netherlands are willing to buy cheap, far too young puppies at the numerous dog markets in Hungary and other Eastern European countries. In addition, the unscrupulous business with animals imported from Hungary and other countries is flourishing in Austria, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.
Here, the puppies are sold via newspaper advertisements, in dubious shops, in private flats or directly from car boots. Very often, animal lovers buy these dogs out of sympathy – without knowing that this makes them responsible for the future breeding of more dogs. The animals neither have been appropriately inoculated nor have they been wormed. Therefore, they easily become sick. As the puppies are taken from their mothers when they are far too young, they often develop behavioural disturbances and many of them do not survive.
FOUR PAWS wants to thwart the unscrupulous trade in puppies.
