"Yesterday, I at last, after days and days of trying, managed to capture this poor, poor bitch on the road about 1km from my house, near a restaurant. We had to put vetranquil into her food in order to put a slip-collar and lead on her.
Because it was sunday eve we had to take her to the animal hospital in Faro where she was immediately euthanised. She had a very contagious form of Sarcoptes, dangerous to humans especially children.
She had been hanging around that restaurant and they had been feeding her without informing the municipal vet for months. If she had been captured months ago she could have been saved. Nobody cares here in S. Brás. The locals are very ignorant about animals and treat them as commodities. The bill for having her euthanised and the cadaver burnt was 102 euros which we had to pay.
Public awareness and care /compassion are hard to find.
When I looked into her eyes I could not stop myself from crying..............so very sad.
